We are actively recruiting for the role Project Engineer - Pipeline. Reporting to the Manager, Project Development & Execution and collaborating with Project Manager(s). The Project Engineer is a key contributor to the advancement of critical growth proejcts for NRM.

 

Role Description:

The Project Engineer is responsible for supporting, and when required, drive advancement of the project(s) in accordance with NRM Project Delivery Model (PDM). The Project Engineer oversees, and guides work performed by engineering service providers, suppliers, and construction contractors to ensure projects are developed following NRM policies, procedures, and engineering specifications.

  • Equipment / Material Suppliers, Service Vendors
  • Fabricators, Integrators, Construction Contractors
  • Project Team:  Project Manager, Project Controls, Construction and Commissioning, SCM, Document Control
  • NRM Engineering, Operations, Regulatory, Land, Engagement, HSE, etc.

 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical support to the Project Manager to meet the scope, schedule, safety, environment, quality, and financial objectives; inclusive of problem solving during the project’s evolution through the pre-FID and post-FID phases with a focus on:
    • Successfully acquiring the project’s regulatory permit(s)
    • Completing a fit-for-purpose detailed design
    • Efficient execution planning, accurate cost and risk identification/mitigation, development and implementation of procurement and contracting plans, and construction execution plans to achieve quality, safety, schedule, cost, and schedule parameters
    • Design and execution value-improvement opportunities 
  • Role model a safe, ethical, and balanced work environment for project participants, inclusive of a project commitment to NorthRiver safety, quality, community, and environment values.
  • Effectively use NorthRiver PDM and other industry standard or innovative project management practices to achieve positive scope, schedule, quality, and cost outcomes and manage and mitigate risks
  • Support the Project Manager in the communication the project’s status to internal and external project participants and NorthRiver management; and proactively identify emerging issues and lead and/or actively collaborate the solutioning of such issues
  • Work closely with Regulatory and Indigenous groups to develop Integrated Regulatory Plans

 

Typical / Primary Deliverables and Duties:

  • Advance the technical dimension of the project(s) including pre-FEED, FEED and/or Detailed Engineering, as applicable including the following typical activities:
    • Evaluate and select engineering resources for engineering
    • Lead design change management
    • Support with HAZOP and constructability reviews, and propose innovative technical solutions
    • Oversee specifying/evaluating/selecting equipment
    • Reviews appropriateness /fitness of design specifications, drawings, code compliance and equipment manuals to determine feasibility of design or application of equipment
    • Prepare engineering scope of work packages and work with vendors to supply project materials
  • Guide supporting internal NRM resources, external consultants, sub-contactors, and engineering firms to undertake the preparation of bid packages, evaluation of proposals, awarding work, managing vendors, and kicking off work plans.
  • Oversee the progress of field work and technical activities involved in engineering, and support the definition of scope for project components; inclusive of site visits as required
  • Refine scope, and support estimating and risk analysis for the project
  • Prepare documentation to guide the project through the NorthRiver PDM execution model and gates
  • Coordinate shop inspections and resolve technical issues
  • Guide / develop with resolutions of Requests for Information (RFIs)
  • Leverage experience and knowledge to identify technical issues, risks, and value adding opportunities and appropriately address these through development of engineered solutions and/or revisions to specifications, standards, and operating practice
  • Support preparation and issuance of PO’s and Contracts
  • Support accurate and timely reporting; ensure effective document flow
  • Support pre-construction planning activities and construction phase activities with selected contractors and service providers and ensure plans for construction, quality assurance, safety, compliance, and commissioning are integrated and managed for a successful project schedule and cost outcome
  • Guide, lead and or participate in plant commissioning and start-ups

 

Required Qualifications:

  • 5 to 15 years of industry experience of which 5 years will be within pipeline design and execution settings
  • Gas processing facility design and execution experience will be considered an asset
  • Professional Engineering status
  • Experience in project estimating and execution planning and scheduling 
  • Technical background and accreditation in an applicable discipline:  Processing, Chemical, Petroleum, Mechanical, Electrical, etc.
  • Experience in monitoring and progressing multi-discipline activities during each phase of the project design cycle such as process, mechanical, civil, and electrical, and so forth
  • Have a solid working knowledge of the applicable regulations, codes and industry standards that govern operations and design in AB & BC
  • Proficient understanding of pipeline development, design, construction and operations
  • Proven problem solving and trouble-shooting abilities
  • Strong organizational, communication and leadership skills
  • Self-directed and capable of working within a dynamic project environment
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Instills confidence and creates strong relationships quickly
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and meet reporting deadlines.
  • Proficiency in SAP an asset
